Liebermann Reagent

The Liebermann Reagent is one of the most widely used test to detect a wide rage of compounds. It is typically used as a secondary or tertiary test to validate results yielded by Marquis and Mandelin/Mecke (typical secondary tests).

It is composed of a mixture of potassium nitrite and concentrated sulfuric acid. 1g of potassium nitrite is used for every 10 mL of sulfuric acid. Potassium nitrite may also be substituted by sodium nitrite.

    USE INSTRUCTIONS

Place a small sample (2-5mg) of the substance you want to analyze in the provided plastic tube. If preferred, the test can be performed on a white ceramic surface for clearer results (e.g. kitchen plate). Add a drop of Smplest Liebermann to the sample and expect it to immediately change colors. When finished, clean all material thoroughly with plenty of water. The entire protocol takes approximately 5 minutes. Store at cold temperature, preferably in the freezer for longer shelf life (up to 12 months).
