Froehde is one of the most widely used test to detect a wide rage of compounds. It is typically used as a secondary or tertiary test to validate results yielded by Marquis and Mandelin/Mecke (typical secondary tests).
The Standardized method for producing the reagent is the addition of 100 ml of hot, concentrated (95–98%) sulfuric acid to 0.5 g of sodium molybdate or molybdic acid.
The Virginia University method uses 0.5 g ammonium molybdate per 100 ml H2SO4 (conc.)

Place a small sample (2-5mg) of the substance you want to analyze in the provided plastic tube. If preferred, the test can be performed on a white ceramic surface for clearer results. Add a drop of Smplest Froehde to the sample and expect it to immediately change colors. Use our legend to interpret results. When finished, clean all material thoroughly with plenty of water. The entire protocol takes approximately 5 minutes. Store at cold temperature, preferably in the freezer for longer shelf life (up to 12 months).
